Thy Will Be Done

I have a friend who’s struggling. She’s in so much pain and agony because things in her life just aren’t the way she wants them to be.  I know that place; it’s frustrating and agonizing – agony really is the better adjective here. Like so many times in life, the answer is simple, but not easy. We’ve been gifted with choice – a.k.a. free will… to make choices.  Why is it then, that when we use our free will to make choices, things don’t go the way we want them to?

Yes, like Princess Diana, I am one of those people who utilize the gifts of psychics. I remember when she died people said, “Well, if she when to psychics, why didn’t she know she was going to die?”  I spent a lot of time thinking about that, and finally had the realization that, we don’t create and choose in a vacuum.  Our lives intersect with all kinds of people every day.  Diana’s life was interwoven with hundreds of other people that night, and their choice and their free will and their actions all merged to create a moment in time and space where they interconnected and overlapped and impacted each other’s outcome.

Co-creation isn’t always pretty. My friend is struggling because she wants her life and the people in it to look, behave, and act like she wants them to, and they aren’t.  We all know the definition of insanity – doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. She keeps coming at the situations in the same way, expecting things to turn out differently.

Having found myself in this situation more times than I care to admit, my heart goes out to her. These are the times I wish I was a screamer, it might help to relieve the pressure!  All I’ve found to be of use is to:

Stop – basically, Stop the Madness.

Breathe – helps me get a little calmer, to sharpen my awareness of what’s going on.

Check in with myself to understand the source of my own frustration and pain.

Understand – be gentle with myself. Hey! The best of intentions don’t always work out.  And, maybe there’s a gift in the situation that I’m overlooking.

Ask for help……. I can’t tell you how many times I forget to do this.  And sometimes just remembering that I CAN ask for help, shifts the energy around the situation.  It certainly makes me feel better, because then I remember I’m not in this all alone.

Surrender – AH!  Surrender does not mean to give up.  It means releasing the person, situation, pain – to the Universe/God/Goddess/Source.  Sometimes we cling so tightly, we blind ourselves to options and opportunities, other points of view, other ways of being, thereby limiting ourselves and our ability to co-create.  Perhaps God/Source/Infinite Intelligence has a better plan in mind, better than anything we could have dreamt of.  Co-creating – kinda takes the load off of our shoulders.
